Why Coffee Matters
As an (almost) lifelong coffee drinker, I am prone to ask people to have conversations over a cuppa coffee or tea or a beverage of choice. Usually, it is coffee, and I like mine black, and if I'm going to be fancy, I enjoy an Americano. A month or so ago, I bought myself a little stove-top percolator to make expressos, and I found a recipe for an "egg coffee" from Portugal that is just yummy.
Coffee has long been known as a social lubricant, something to do with your hands or mouth while you listen during small talk or serious conversations. Some Lutherans even go so far as to say that coffee is the third sacrament after baptism and communion. Lutherans love a good coffee fellowship, and Trinity's coffee fellowship is second to none. I have enjoyed many coffee fellowships in many churches, really across the country, and we have the best.
Not only is the coffee tasty, but the treats are plentiful and delicious, and our hosts are always pleasant and friendly. What amazes me is that most people who stay after worship sit and chat for a while. We really care about each other. Thank you to all of our host families who help contribute to the fellowship of the church!
"Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds (a) to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous (c) hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Acts 2:45-47.
If you have not heard, there is a new MEN'S coffee group meeting on Tuesday morning. This week, on April 28th, they will meet at the IVY at 8:30 a.m. But look for a change in venue and time beginning May 5th. With the summer season advancing, it makes sense to move to Pardner's Cafe located inside the library at 9:00. The coffee is free with a donation/tip, and they have pastries and light breakfast available.
"The social value of meeting a friend for coffee includes:
♰ Building deeper connections through face-to-face conversation away from daily distractions.
♰ Creating regular touchpoints that help maintain friendships during busy life seasons.
♰ Fostering vulnerability in a relaxed, comfortable environment that encourages sharing.
♰ Establishing rituals that provide consistency and something to look forward to.
♰ Combating social isolation by prioritizing human connection over digital communication

By the way, I'm always up for a cup of coffee and a chat. I'm still getting to know you, and you me. Just give me a call or text 317-752-4772.
Looking forward!
